It is getting very close to that time of the year again.  Labor Day is behind us and now we start to prepare our homes and families for those special times for you and your loved ones.  Your yearly planning to make memories that last a lifetime.

This can be quite a balancing act.  Balancing enjoyment, family time, memories and preparation without added stress.   So how is the best way to incorporate your task into A BALANCED WEEK?  Here are a few of my thoughts as the seasons near.

  • Think Small – Your family and friends will enjoy your hospitality and company no matter how big or small the event or gift.  Whatever your time and budget permits….that is enough.
  • Plan Ahead – Make your shopping list, plan your budget and stick to it!  There will always be other ideas and things you what to add to the gift list or holiday menu.  DON’T
  • Now could be the time to clear clutter and unused items from your home.  Consider selling good condition used items on local Facebook buy-sell-trade groups, craigslist or a garage sale.  Use the money for the Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas season.  Donate what you do not sell.
  • Holiday Shopping – Do it Online…..Super easy and super stress free.  Saves on time and gas!

Keeping it REAL

Have A Balanced Week

Several days ago I watched this documentary. Sometimes you watch something and it forever changes the way you think and do certain everyday task. For me I am driven to share this movie with as many mothers, fathers, friends and loved ones as I can.

What is in Your Home?

What is in Your Home?

Several key points made perfect sense to me.

Cancers, autism and several other medical conditions have risen dramatically since just the 1970’s.  Since I am a product of the 50’s and 60’s, I am just old enough to realize this.  For example I have wondered for years, how is it that up until recent years I had never heard of autism.

Why is it that 1 in 8 women (and now men too) today have or will have some form of breast cancer?  When science now tells us that less than 14% of all cancers are hereditary.

Why are cancers in CHILDREN up 80%  since the 1970’s?

These and other questions make you think about what has changed in our modern society in the last 50 years.

PROGRESS….that is what is changing.  All the things we use, live with and eat that make our lives easy, that’s what.

So it makes you wonder…..how can we reverse modernization?  And would we want to even if we could.  Grassroot efforts seem to want to, but large corporations, government and FDA do not seem so eager.  Many of the efforts or lack of I should say, have very similar actions of the cigarette warnings of the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Here is a trailer of the movie.  Take a look.

E-Commerce And My Life

Never, ever box yourself in.   Yes that could be a bit strong and rigid.  So at least allow your box to bend and expand.  That is what I had to tell myself just over a year ago.  And what a ride it has been.

Almost 30 short years ago I found success and passion in real estate.  Twenty five wonderful years as a mortgage loan originator.  When I started in the business I knew NOTHING about lending and all the tedious paperwork and regulations that went with it.  But I was young, a mom to a tween and was determined to make a comfortable living for the two of us.  I seized the opportunity and never gave of thought to being scared.  I just moved forward and became a sponge learning and applying every piece of knowledge I could find.  Eventually I even branched out to flipping some real estate.   Financial success did NOT happen overnight (as they say) or even in a year or two.  But I recognized the baby steps and within a few long years I experienced financial success beyond my imagination.

Fast forward to October 2013.   Many changes took place in my life, both personal and professional.  I needed a new ‘gig’.  I tried many different areas in real estate and nothing really stuck for me.  I kept saying to myself…..self….you need something that keeps you from having to chase the next deal.  Frustration was setting in to this aging mind and body.  One day the light bulb just clicked on for me.  It seems so simple now, but it really wasn’t.  Four words:  LOOK OUTSIDE OF REAL ESTATE!!!!  And once I did…wow!

It began 2014 with the idea of starting a food blog and turn my love of cooking into a blog.  Let it grow and eventually monetize it.  Yea, great idea, but not exactly it.  However, as a side note, this blog may sit dormant for awhile, but will never die.  I have all kinds of ideas that float through my mind regarding this blog.  At some point it will go through many changes and will be a great resource for not only eating and living a healthy lifestyle, but also about support and encouragement to step outside your box and continue to grow and network with like minded people.

Online business!!!  That was what I was looking for.  It is the next big thing!!!  And has been for some time.  Brick and mortar is dying!  But guess what, consumerism is NOT!  People are still buying.  Of course they are.  They are just going about it a different way.  Online.  Wow.  November 2014 I paid a lot of money to attend a 3-day class that some folks from another part of the country put on right here in Dallas, Texas.  I was hooked from the first hour.  My mind was racing.  By the second day I knew that this was a business that I was going to give it my all.   Amazon FBA.  Wow.  I was just one of those old timers that had been on Amazon maybe 2 or 3 times in my life.

Well the journey started 8 months ago.  There have been some ups and downs.  The learning curve was steep, but I feel that I have finally gotten my wings.  And by the way, I did buy into the up sale of the 3-day seminar.  Never in my life spent that kind of money for a coaching program.  Sadly, they did not deliver all they outlined, but I did get enough out of it to get this far.  I changed my strategy on my own and am now starting to see some profit.  This is easy, but not easy.  You have to pay attention and also be reading and learning.  Go wide not deep!  I have goals!  I want my store to be at least selling 400 items a month.  I am now cross selling on ebay!  And a year ago I was scared of ebay too!

All this to say that I will always be reading, learning and networking!  I am even starting to teach my niece the business.   There is enough for all.  I love to share with anyone that wants to know what I am doing.  But if you want to actually do it, well roll up your sleeves and be prepared to work your butt off, because that is exactly what it take.  The rewards will happen along the way and eventually it will all pay off!

Glamorous Gala is just one of many Barbies being sold at SavvyDiva27 Store on EBAY

I never realized how much planning and time that was required to liquidate an estate of Barbies and barbie accessories.  Currently I have been at this  for over a year now.   Until recently I was selling exclusively on Facebook Groups and now I have finally upped by skills (but mostly courage) to Ebay.

THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A MOMENT………….

One tiny post on any item that you wish to sell and just like that you are selling to the WORLD!!!

As a result I have a new found respect for all online resellers.  Mostly it is the great rewarding feeling knowing that doll by doll, piece by piece a new owner is very happy and excited and their new great find.

I just love the free enterprise system and especially the internet for making so many more opportunities possible.

If you are an EBAY seller, let us know your store name and I will be sure to follow you.  You can view my ever growing collection at SavvyDiva27.

Friday Night Pizza

pizza The process of  designing PIZZA is an art form like no other.  You build and create yet no two masterpieces are ever the same.

When I feel the urge coming on, I start planning my next attack.  For me the action always happens on a Friday.  It’s like a fun filled reward for the end of a productive week…..with an adult beverage in hand or course!  From homemade sauce to homemade dough, the process is not as difficult as you might think.  With the right kitchen tools, a wee bit planning and staging in phases, the reward is always worth the fun of creating.

You always know I mean serious business when the bread maker is firmly planted on the kitchen counter.   And I always use the pizza dough recipe from this book.    Fleischmann's Yeast Bread Machine Favorites  I have always had good luck with the bread recipes in this booklet.

Next up is the pizza sauce.  Hint:  If you have a can of tomato paste in your pantry, you CAN make homemade pizza sauce.  Simply and easily.  Here is the link to the recipe I use.  My only revision is that I cut back on the water by about a third of the called for amount.  It was a reviewers suggestion.  The recipe I use is Easy Pizza Recipe

Tips & Tricks:

  • Use slightly less flour & slightly more water than recipe call for in pizza dough
  • Allow dough to set in bread maker several hours before removing
  • Be patient with dough and flour hands to prevent sticking
  • Cook pizza dough a minute or two before adding sauce and toppings
  • Pizza sauce can be stored in frig safely for several weeks.
  • Have your favorite music playing moderately loud when creating your masterpiece.

The possibilities are endless for toppings.  Here are a few of my favorites.

  • Italian Sausage
  • Bell Pepper
  • Onion
  • Mushroom
  • Pepperoni
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Red Pepper Flakes
  • Fresh Tomato Slices when garden tomatoes are in season
